Coaching License
Note: Beginning in 2002, WYSA has gradually phased in coach licensing requirements and enforcement. Each passing season has seen an increased need for clubs and coaches to take the steps necessary to meet these standards. Fall 2004 will continue this policy as explained in the WYSA Compliance Document.
License Requirements: As stated in the WYSA Policies and Rules document, effective August 2003:
- Coaches working with U15 and older STATE LEAGUE teams are required to have, at minimum, a 'D' level coaching license.
- Coaches working with U11 and older CLASSIC teams are required to have, at minimum, an 'E' level coaching certificate.
- Coaches working with U10 and younger teams are required to have, at minimum, a 'Y1' level coaching certificate.
Satisfying License Requirements: Generally, license requirements are met by successfully completing the various levels of coaching education courses provided by WYSA. Course prerequisites and schedules are available on WYSA's web-site.
Obtaining a Coach Pass Card: Note that obtaining a coaching license and registering with the WYSA for a coach pass card are two related but different steps in the process. You shouldn't assume that completing the licensing process automatically grants you a coaching pass - see this page for details.
