Mission
The mission of the Racine Spartans Soccer Club is to bring a positive competitive soccer playing experience to any child - regardless of physical abilities or financial situation. This can only be achieved in an environment where coaches, parents and players are willing and able to take those steps necessary to foster a love and understanding of the game and a passion to excel.
We believe that youth sport and the game of soccer in particular, provide a unique and powerful opportunity to teach our youth those lessons that will carry them well beyond their days on the playing field. Enjoy.
History
The Racine Spartan Soccer Club was established in 1975 at a meeting between Ted Kyriazes and Jim Demetriou (pictured below).
They had the idea to promote soccer in the city of Racine. Their purpose was to bring the Greek community and other ethnic communities,
both youth and adults, together for the promotion of the sport.
Soon after another meeting was called by Jim Demetriou for the purpose of naming the team. Present at this meeting were Jim Demetriou,
Stan Safedis, Ted Karapanos, John Vogt, John Gianou and Ted Kyriazes. Much thought and discussion went into deciding that the team
should have the name of "Spartans"; for the 300 Spartan warriors of Sparta, Greece. The team's colors would be blue and white.
With much enthusiasm, the first team was started with the initial donation given by Ted Kyriazes. Soon other Greek businessmen from
the Racine and Kenosha area made donations to help fund the start of the first team of the Racine Spartan Soccer Club. The following
year the adult team of the Spartan Soccer Club entered the first division of the Wisconsin Soccer Association. The first team consisted of:
Coach - Theodore Karapanos
Players: John Anianias, Taso Vasiakos, Stan Safedis, Bill Safedis, Stathi Gianou, John Gianou, Nick Paros, Mr. DeCostanzo,
Theodore Eliades, Frank Koumosz, Andy Koumosz, Armando Magallanes, Demirali Ismaili, Zaravko Milandinovic, Dennis Koutsopoulos.
